Well guys, here's what I wound up with.

Postby geezer2 » Sat May 02, 2015 5:13 pm

I just picked up a 1982 GL1100 Aspencade today. After momma went for a nice ride and gave her thumbs up. I did this so we could enjoy some rides together. Very happy with the purchase, but of course, no record of belt changes. Everything works, radio, air ride and compressor, bike is in excellent condition. It has 43,674 miles on it. New battery, new starter and a box of extra items for her. I snatched it for $2000. I have 2 extra timing belts but don't know if they're new, old ones, etc. Their Honda # 14400-679-0041> Is there any way of evaluating their condition? They look new to me. But the PO has had this bike since 2001 and only put 10,000 miles on it. Here she is...

V belts and serpentine belts visually age, as they stretch...cracks, checking, whatever. Timing belts, being timing belts, can not stretch, (or the angular reference between drive and driven pulleys would change) so they do NOT visually age.

That doesn't mean they don't age, though. Change them out with fresh new, please. Don't be THAT guy, looking at the two halves of a busting timing belt, cryin'
"but it still looks new!"
No....don't be that guy...don't risk being that guy with Her bike!

$2000 for that beauty, with that mileage? A steal!

I just ordered a set of Shinko Tourmasters for her. Great reviews with a retailer I've got great experience with. I'm looking forward to good service with these tires. I even have the original tire gauge that came with the bike. Sweet!

Great bike and buy. I put Shinko Tourmasters on all of my last 3 bike's, they are a great tire and your 1100 will love them, they grip the road like cat in a tree, quiet and smooth. Ride safe and replace those belts with new ones, Gates make most of Hondas and Napas belts and Gates is about the best priced.

to onto rockauto.com you can get a pair of gates timing belts for your bike for $12.40 each. the part numbers are the same for both belts, T274, info for the belts are 250274. i bought a pair of them and had them shipped, they got here in about 3 days. perfect replacement belts. with the shipping it was less than $30 bucks. cant beat that with a stick.

stuart.
