1982 GL1100 clutch

Postby SteveK5257 » Mon May 11, 2015 12:59 pm

Greetings,

I recently acquired a 1982 Gl1100i. The person I got it from rode it regularly over the last year. However it sat for several years before that.
The starter clutch was starting to act up and getting worse so he sold it to me quite cheap. After riding a few times, I decided to try the Seafoam method to see if that would resolve the starter clutch problem before removing the engine. After a 35mi. ride with the Seafoam, the clutch started failing to totally disengage. Adjusting the cable did not help.

This brings me to my question. When I removed the clutch cover there was no "push rod". ( not the one directly linked to the lever, but the 1/4 in or so rod that is shown on some expanded views in the center ) The rod is shown in some expanded views but not in others. Do some models not have it?

The clutch was working fine before this. It my model needs one , any thoughts on where to find one.

Thanks

Are we talking about starter clutch or the transmission clutch. Because there is no cable to adjust for starter clutch.
And yes the little push rod is needed for the trans. clutch. Check on ebay for the part.

Transmission clutch. No luck so far on ebay. Anybody have the spec's on it? Maybe fab one.

I still not sure how it was working without it.
Thanks

80-01 GL1100 had the pin you mention, 82-83 did not. As far as I remember, the only adjustment is on the cable.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
