1982 Gl 1100 coils

Postby dodge » Tue May 12, 2015 9:35 pm

I know there have been post on coils all over the place. All the references I see are to change to go the Dodge Neon route or the 1500 thingy or all the other coils I see are for 1100 hds thru 81. My manual says there is some slight differences in primary and secondary resistance from the older coils. Why are there so many of the other and not so many of the 1982 coils, is an 83 the same? I really can't find a source for the 82. Somebody hep me!

I had problems with my coils. I found there are several different coil numbers on the outside of each coil. I finally replaced with the same number that was on my bike for years.

coils on ebay they say are for such and such year. That did not fix my problem. When I finally got the right number it ran pretty good. The only problem is they are all 30+years old and tend to crack.

I finally got tired of changing coils and I put the C-5 ignition on my bike. No longer a problem for me.

good luck with yours.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the numbers when I pull them . What's this C-5 ignition?

c-5 is a new way for the engine to use all the gas and I have had no trouble with my bike since I changed over to this system. You get new American coils, gets rid of the vacuum, and just a great (in my opinion) new system. More power in any gear, no bogging down. It seems expensive until you realize everything it replaces on 30+ yr old parts.

here is the web for it.
