81 GL1100 restoration progress.

Postby DCoxson1969 » Wed May 13, 2015 12:43 pm

Well, this has been a 2 year ongoing process. Wanted to show some of the work I have done. I took the bike down to frame and engine. Rims were looking pretty bad so I removed the tires and guts of the rims and blasted them and had my cousins autobody shop paint them. Had the valve covers and timing belt covers powder coated as well as the lower fork tubes. The burnt orange color you see a the top of the fork tubes will be the base color for the plastics. Took every bracket I could off and sanded, primed and painted (even though you won't be able to see them when the plastic is on). Rebuilt the final drive and painted. Replaced the water pump. Cleaned the carbs, replaced all fuel lines. Rebuilt all calipers and master cylinders and replaced all brake lines. Installed new floor boards. Cleaned up the chrome. New tires. I am sure there are things I am forgetting, but I put allot of time and effort into this to make it as nice as possible. Wanted to share a couple pictures of the progress. Next pictures will be once the plastics are repaired and painted.

Nice work! Please keep the pics coming. I am very impressed. Also a firefighter (retired).

Be safe and I am looking forward to more as you progress.
