The 1100 is very similar to the 1500, here is a guide that should walk you throught the process. 8-)

The most difficult part of this whole process is to make sure that you can release the fork cap retaining bolt on each fork leg - my suggestion is to do this while they are still in the top clamp - just release the tension on the top clamp and use your tool to undo maybe one turn only on fork cap. So when you do take it out you can easily undo it.
WARNING - have a shop towel or cloth over the top and have a firm grip on the socket or whatever you use to undo the cap - there is a lot of spring tension behind these, and they can hurt if you slip.

Once stripped down and cleaned - then simple to reassemble - again the spring tension when installing the fork cap - you might need some assistance (a vice and a friend), mark the fork cap and fork where it starts to engage the thread - so you have a good feel when you are putting it back together - and then you won't damage the threads.

No but it will push back with some force and launch the nut and maybe the tool if you are not holding on tight.
