I've only rebuilt GL1100 carbs one time, but I don't recall one needle being different than the other three. Depending on make and model, some needles hang from the float by a small clip, others from a lip at the top of the needle. You might be referring to the clip as a spring. The only spring of which I am aware resides inside the needle and is actuated my a small pin protruding from the top of the needle. It may be possible that one of your carbs is using a style of float that uses a different hanging method for the float needle than the other three. Here's a link to a rebuild process that many find helpful.http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12168 There could be slight variations for your motorcycle. Here's a link to manuals for your bike:http://goldwingdocs.com/Manuals.asp?type=GL1100&year=1983 Post some pictures if you can. Good luck.

Nope they are all the same..your float needle is bad..you can try to clean it out by soaking it in a solvent but keep the rubber tip out of the solvent. You can push on the pin to break it lose, if it springs back liek the others it's good to go..if not only replace with Honda OEM replacement.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE
