junked g/w in auto wrecking yard

Postby roadwanderer2 » Tue Jun 02, 2015 4:44 pm

so, there i was at my local auto wrecking yard looking for any bike parts i could find and use, when i remember seeing this torn apart Goldwing laying on the ground, don't know what year it is because someone cut the entire front off of it, i.e. triple tree, forks and front wheel. there's no vin # or ID tag on it, but the whole motor, (minus the carbs), final drive, and what's left of the frame is still there.

now my question is, is there a way to find out what year the motor is by getting the numbers off of the motor case? i have a chance to get the motor and the final drive for $100.00......the motor is seized, but i might be able to use the transmission and some of the other electrical parts and definitely the final drive if i can figure out what year the motor is.

can someone tell me anything that might help me find out what year motor and/or bike this was?

stuart.

hey RB, from what i saw, it didn't have any points or a kick start on the motor and the vin #'s have been cut off with the front of the frame, but i'll have to go back and check it again. would it help if i copied the numbers off of the motor to find out the year of engine? depending on what year the motor is, i can reuse the final drive the transmission and a few other "odds and ends" on the motor and some of the electronics.

ok, the motor DID have the letters and numbers SCO2E on it. that's all i can remember. i should have written it down when i was there, but i'll go back tomorrow and look at it again. i copied the info you gave in your posting and im going to take it with me when i go back.

hey RB, if its an 80, and even though the motor is seized up is it worth the $100. to get the motor so i can have the final drive and some of the other motor parts? because the entire engine is there except for the carbs and radiator. can the final drive be reused on my 83 aspy?
