alt. conversion

I kept going to the junk yard and buying used alternators, see I had parts for many of them I couldn't get the 14 volt readings I had at one time,, Hummm I finally bit the bullet and went and bought a brand new alt. for a 92 Geo metro XFI at O'Riley's, It's another Denso (ND) I got the Denso because the specs. are the same as the one I had which is also a Denso, see If I got a different brand the bore shaft bolt probably wouldn't be the same size, getting a Denso and the 2" pulley I use fits it perfectly, I also bought a new maintenance free Napa Battery, Oh I'm back at 14 volts at idle again with no problems....Sometimes alternator just wear out...Both items were Harley items $100.00 LOL I did have to cut the backside off for the rear mount, big deal and enlarge the lower hole to fit my 1/2" bolt to mount it....went on in a snap...Wow  I'm getting good at this crap...

No it still was working but it dropped in volts at idle from where it once was.... It always had 14 volts at idle but it gradually went down, I changed the brushes and even the regulator but it made no change, it was deflating in volts to below 12 volts but when I throttled up it would get back up to 14 but that's not what I wanted,, got a new alt. and battery and I am back to 14 at idle, all I can figure is that it's the alternator getting old and used..

I forgot what I paid for the alternator I used on the 1200 wing but I usually get parts fro napa. I go to the parts guy on my job and get a very good discount on most everything
