blue exhaust

Postby tomos » Fri Jun 12, 2015 2:10 pm

Hello again ,
I have been riding my bike for about a month since I have put everything together .
Bike runs great, starts right up but I noticed that right side exaust pipes have changed colour into blue and left side is still shiny ! ??
What could be a couse for that uneven heat?

Carbs are done by Pistol Pete, all gaskets are new, valves and seats lapped and adjusted properly, new timing belts, timing on the mark, new spark plugs in one sentence everything is done by the book.
What I am missing ?
Kind regards
Zoran

When chrome turns blue like this, it is due to excessive heat. This is commonly caused by cylinders that are running too lean - i.e. the air/fuel mixture is off, with not enough fuel for a given volume of air.

It is probably a synch. issue with one side needing to be looked at.
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

So here's what I've discovered ,
Pistol Pete and Moose deserve highest possible respect ! !!
Without any problem they have jumped in to help with issue "blue pipes ".
I have realized that I have been overreacting and discoloration is not as bad as I thought .
It is just this:aftermarket pipes do not have additional heat protection wall so color show up more than on OM products .
Spark plugs have normal and expected color, mixture is properly done in carbs. :D
So I will keep riding more and less looking for a trouble
Kind regards to my fellow riders .
Zoran
