gas cap hiss

Postby shivsal » Sat Jul 03, 2010 9:26 pm

Hi, I have an 82 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade. Can someone tell me is it normal for when I remove the gas cap to fill up, that it has a long hiss, right after I undo it. It does it every time.
thanks

Vent hole is plugged. Can create a vacuum in the tank, and possibly cause the bike to run poorly. Sometimes you can soak the cap in penetrating oil for a few days and blast it open with an air hose. Some also just drill a vent hole thru the center of the cap with a small drill bit. Others just leave the cap loose so the vacuum can not build, and the rest just buy a new cap.
You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape!
