GL 1100 Carb Question

Postby wbetheajr » Sun Jul 04, 2010 12:05 am

I heard something today that is hard to believe so I thought I would throw it out there. I was told that you can put a Ford 4 barrel carb on an 1100 engine and eliminate having to sync carbs. Anyone else ever heard of this?

Is it possible? Sure, I'm sure it's possible, somehow. Will you get the performance you now get from the four carbs that are tuned and engineered for your engine? Probably not. There are always trade-offs and compromises.

Quite a few people have put single carbs on their Goldwings. I haven't heard of any that have perfect performance like the original carbs. YMMV.

Single carbs are possible many have done it but not a four barrel..usually an old webers or solex..from VW's lots of posts on this on NGW site. YOu need to match air and gas flow combo's to the OEm carbs..flow rating. And you have to buy or built a manifold to fit the carbs and the bike.
