Bike "dances" at highway speeds

Postby sportsfreaked » Tue Jul 21, 2015 7:27 pm

The 81 Gl1100 Interstate tends t. o "dance" at highway speeds. I have rebuilt the forks and it has new tires on front and back and the rear shocks hold air. I am thinking after reading many posts on here that I would lean towards the swingarm needing to be greased up or perhaps the steering bearing. Wind seems to affect this bike a lot more then my 1200. What are your expert thoughts?

Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

Yep
that's where I would start,
Steering head bearings for condition and proper torque.
Swingarm bearing condition.

Somethings not right.

My 82 will cruise very straight and stable, hands off grips, throttle lock set on 80 mph.

Have a look for things that are loose that should not be - primarily bearings. Steering head bearings, wheel bearings, swingarm bearings. Check for incorrect movement, primarily lateral (side to side).
