Footpegs

Postby Don Lenamon » Wed Aug 05, 2015 5:50 pm

I recently bought a used1981 GL 1100. The bike has floorboards and it's difficult to access the brake pedal.I would like to switch back to pegs but all I keep hearing is try eBay. I don't need original and I don't understand why aftermarket pegs won't fit. Is there some reason why aftermarket pegs won't fit or are these people ignorant? What is the thread size I would need to be able to make something work? Thanks.

The 1100 pegs don't screw in, they have a hole that a stud from the frame goes through. I'd like to see a link to aftermarkets that you are thinking of trying, as I've not seen any? Ebay or a motorcycle junkyard seem to be the only way to go. Just look at a set on ebay to see how they mount. You might be able to make something else work, but they should be REALLY strong - enough to stand on just one side with all your weight. On my 1200 the PO made some really ugly pegs that I just couldn't stand looking at. Right to the trash.

Good luck - show pictures if you decide to make something!

Another question on footpegs.
A friend just bought a 1980 GL-1100 with those floorboards.
We have access to a '78 parts bike. Will the footpegs from
the '78 1000 fit the 80 1100

Thanks gang.

I think they will fit, but you should have this in your own thread and not hijack another...

Yes the 78 gl1000 and the 80 gl1100 use the same step arm so they will fit

Depends on what he means by "footpegs". I have 1000 pegs on my 1100 and the arm is the same, yes, but as an assembly the bracket that attaches to the frame is different. It will fit, but at the wrong angle due to the "tab" at the rear of the bracket.

Correct, the frame mount has a different part number. I should have mentioned that.
