82/83 Interstate/Aspy Differences?

Postby zvacman » Fri Jul 09, 2010 8:29 am

I have an 82 Interstate. I am searching for chrome dress up items and want to make sure I know the specific differences between years and models. Up until now I thought the only real differences between Interstate and Aspencade were the paint scheme and the compressor for the shocks, and maybe the stereo package. I know wingadmin has an Aspy and a significant amount of knowledge but I didn't want to just pm him and not tap the rest of the braintrust out here. One part I found that I want is a set of front brake caliper and rotor covers but the ad mentions 1983 Aspy specifically, will these fit my 82 Interstate?

Thanks in advance, Z

There are a few significant changes between the 82 and 83. The 83 Aspencade had a digital dashboard that replaced the old tach/speedo gauges. The 83 Aspencade also got different wheels. More importantly, the 83 got linked brakes, where the foot pedal operates the rear brake as well as the right front caliper, with the hand lever working the left front caliper. This change makes a large number of brake components incompatible with pre-83 Goldwings.

The forks were changed, anti-dive was added, and the rear shocks were strengthened. The trunk was moved up and back to accommodate the larger passenger area on the seat.

Thanks. I wish I knew all of the differences before I bought but I still got a screaming deal on the bike so I'm not going to complain. I ended up getting the PO to send me $400.00 of the $1400.00 I paid for the bike because he lied about some repairs he had done. After rebuilding the carbs, all new fluids, plugs, fuel tank, and new tires I'm into her for $1500.00 with only 9950 miles.
