!982 GL 1100 brake pistons

Postby dmor1019 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 2:44 pm

Ok first this site causes me to stay up way too late gleaning as much info as I can here. Now my question, I am rebuilding my brakes and in a Honda service manual for a GL 1200 ( I don't have the proper 1100 yet) in Sec.15 page 18 it says to install pistons with dished ends toward pads, but when checking a Clymer for a 1200 it shows pistons going in with dished side going in opposite, so which is right or does it matter?

Thanks again for this community,

Check ou the How To section on rebuilding the caliper. Wingadmin did one up for the front caliper but the rear is the same. The flat side of the pistion is inside the housing.

Well I did check WingAdmin's how to which I was OK with till I saw the Honda service manual for the 1200. I will go with pad to inside and see how it works,

Thanks

I have never seen ANY caliper on ANY vehicle that put the open end of the piston into the caliper. This would create a huge air space inside the caliper that would be very difficult to bleed, I'm pretty sure the brakes would just not work at all.
