Good luck finding the problem.
I spent 1 1/2 years trying to get mine to work. Did just as you described.

They keep saying it is a ground. I never found it.

Ya, my head light just shouted out recently. I have not found that either.
Thanks! I would replace the wiring harness if I could.

I'm inclined to point you to a mechanical problem in the turn signal switch assembly. When the turn signal is pushed one way,it compresses a spring and the solenoid locks it in position.Auto cancle operates the solenoid, releasing the switch to the center off position.the direction that does not work is not moving back to center off.
The cancler module simply operates the solenoid mechanism in the bottom of the switch assembly. The switch is spring loaded for moving it to off.
Careful disassembly is in order.Little springs and stuff in there can get lost if you don't watch.

About your head light.
You mention it quit. Both high and low beam?
Does the blue high beam indicator come on at all?
A common problem if everything for the headlights going out is a poor connection in the start button(switch). All the power goes through it to get to the Hi/Lo rocker switch.
If the dash Hi beam lamp is on,you may have lost the ground feeding the headlight itself.

Yes, both Hi&Low. Here was another wire coming from the harness behind the headlight. I jumped that wire in to the light assembly and current both work as if nothing is wrong? Electronics..... err

If you aren't in any great big hurry, I've got an 83 left controls that I can give you.
Trouble is, it's with the bike in my Mom's garage in Pa. (in a box of spares).

If you want it, send me a PM with your address.
It's yours, for the cost of shipping.

Should be late October when I get up there again, chauffeuring the wife up in her car, then ride my 82 1100 back to NC then back to Pa a week later to drive her car back).

When all else fails, RTFM!
