shifting into 1st on a '80 Interstate

Postby theiggy » Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:56 am

When shifting from 1st to second or back down if feels a little rough. Not the nice click that the other gears have but almost like the gears are not meshing up or the clutch is not fully ingaged. Does any one have any ideas on this? What oil would I use for the gear box if I changed the oil?

As always I would like to thank the great people that provide their answers and input on this site.

First off, there is no oil for the gear box - the engine and transmission is in the same case, so the transmission uses engine oil. What oil are you using now?

You might also want to check the condition of your clutch and clutch cable.

I am using 10-40 motorcycle. I played with the clutch adjuster and got it sound a lot better. It is time for an oil change so that may be part of it.
Any idea where I can get the kits to change it to the speed oil filter?

A few people make them. If I were to get one, I'd probably look at Randakk's: Standard Oil Filter Conversion Kit
