Knocking again !!

Postby knockdolian » Sun Oct 04, 2015 3:54 pm

Hi all, new to this forum so be nice !!! I have a knocking at idle but it goes as I reach 1500 revs. I have balanced the carb but still there. My question is, if the idle jet is blocked or slightly blocked will it still idle. if yes but poorly would I still be able to sync the carbs and still have the knock. This bike has been stood for about 5 years.
Cheers

The bike will still idle- but there will be a knock if the carbs are not balanced. When the carbs are cleaned thoroughly then when you re-set the balance, the knock will quickly disappear.

If the idle circuits are clogged the carbs can't be synced properly.

I agree with what you say in part. The way I see it. sync measures the amount of air being drawn in on the downward stroke which is regulated by the butterfly valve. It will still sync if no fuel is being collected on the way through ?? Or am I wrong. I'm

That's true so the keyword here is "properly".
