GL1100 "Add-On" trailer hitch

Postby Dan J » Tue Nov 10, 2015 10:03 pm

I recently purchased a new "Add-On" brand trailer hitch for my 83 Aspencade and in reviewing how it is supposed to be installed I feel that it seems like a rather flimsy affair. Has anyone out there had any experience with this particular brand of hitch installed on a GL1100? I would really appreciate any feedback you might be able to provide. I usually ride my 1973 Moto Guzzi Eldorado pulling a Smitty trailer, but I thought I would give this Goldwing stuff a try.
Thanks,
Dan

Sorry, I have no experience with the 1100s, but if someone else has this experience, perhaps they will chime in. Sorry for the late response, and welcome Dan.

Maybe OP will log in for the first time since the day after he posted that, 6 weeks ago, and see your message...

Could you post a picture of the hitch.

I have a hitch on mine that looks like the Add-on brand, but it was on the bike when I bought it.

It attaches to (replaces) the rear bumper bar. It pulled a trailer all the way to Florida from Grande Prairie, Alberta for the original owners - they took a 3 month retirement trip. I'm just too cheap to buy a new trailer to give it a try myself. It is solid and well built - but also 30+ years old. I've had really good luck with everything I've got from Add-on - they seem like good people.

My wife is the greatest - she won't let me sell my bike - I'm less grumpy when I ride...
