Passenger seat back rest on 82 GL1100A

Postby highlander_ca » Tue Nov 10, 2015 10:47 pm

Hello folks, well it has been a long time coming but I have finally brought our 82 'wing down south to Louisiana. We are looking forward to riding as often as possible but unfortunately the passenger seat back that bolts onto to front of the trunk has given up on me. The frame has rusted so badly from many years of outdoor storage that the foam and cover came loose. Can anyone advise where I can access Honda bolt on body parts. My wife wants to repaint the bike and we will likely change to a black seat cover as well, I would love to add a drivers backrest!
I have owned this wing for over 15 years but have only actively ridden it for a few, various postings and job functions and family priorities have had to take the lead and the poor wing just waited patiently. We finally brought her back to street ready and are looking forward to many memorable rides. I am very interested in what members have found to be effective highway pegs for the 82 wings, I think a floor board stile on top of the engine bars would be comfortable, I look forward to what others have found to be effective pegs that let you stretch your legs out.

I think your best bet will be eBay. Looking there now, there is one for sale for $15:

Some of the aftermarket seats come as a kit for the bike. If you plan on painting the bike and upgrading the seat - I might look at a new or new to you complete system. You can get one with a backrest for you too.
My wife is the greatest - she won't let me sell my bike - I'm less grumpy when I ride...

Thanks Oldbear, I am considering at a seat replacement with a drivers back rest as well. I like the looks of several of the seats on the market but before I commit that much money I would like to know other members evaluations of the various seats out there.
We just left Edmonton area for my wife's home here in Louisiana, I was just up for a visit and left the day the snow started falling, hope you can get at least one more decent day to ride before winter settles in. It is still warm and sunny here!

I sure did... I back out of the shop - did a loop in the cul-ti-sac... and drove up onto the lift.

As for the seats, we've been discussing this on a different thread. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=27673

This is what I have for highway pegs and I love them. Basically mount wherever you want on front crash bars and fully adjustable. I think their old marklands

Sorry for the long delay in responding! I didn't see your response initially. I love the pegs you posted in the picture! What make/model are they and where can you source them?

I have a back rest that bolts to the trunk..they are hard to find..$25 plus shipping, as to highway pegs it kind of depends if you are 6' to 6'2" or so simple pegs $15 to $20that bolt to the crash bars work well but if you are taller or shorter something with more adjustment options is probably needed like the Kuryakyn but they run $150 and up. Boards VS pegs is another choice.
