Where's Waldo? Relay gl1100

Postby Flyboy6 » Fri Nov 13, 2015 3:50 pm

This is a bit embarrassing, but looking for turn signal relay gl1100. Assuming it is under the false rank, left side. Is is the square black unit (1) in photo? If so, what are (2) and (3)?

Pretty sure item 2 is the flasher relay - just remove it from the rubber holder and disconnect the wiring - probably two connectors on it.

Item 1 - Headlight relay ?? do you have driving lights?

Not sure on item 3.

Number was my first thought as well, but it has 4 pins. And now a busted shell.

#1 is definitely the turn signal flasher. It's confusing, because on 1980-1982 bikes, the turn signal flasher is in the same position as #2, in front of the regulator. On 1983's, they have a different (smaller) regulator, and they moved the turn signal flasher behind the regulator, as you see in your picture.

Well, now I'm curious. I'll attach a pic of the other unknown unit (number 3), see if anyone can guess based on the wire colours. There was nothing odd wired onto the bike, at least not when I got it. When I'm next in the shop I'll pull the modules and see what is stamped on them.

Anyone steer me to a 83 Aspie wiring diagram, preferably colour?

I'm not positive as I've never worked on an '83, but my guess is #2 would be the rear air pressure warning controller.

Flyboy, at the top of this page, click on manuals, select 83 1100 and then locate the color wiring diagram in the menu selection. you can down load it from there to your computer. :D :D

Thanks - aspencade has a few differences from interstate, but that diGram should help. I think (2) might be the angle sensor.

Found my wiring schematic for aspencade. (3) is the main relay, and (2) is possibly angle sensor.
