exhaust manifold temp

Postby duckem » Sat Nov 21, 2015 1:26 am

Hello everyone
I have recently bought a 1982 GL1100
have some carb issues and trying to find out which carb is too lean or to rich
i was checking the temp on the exhaust manifold and got some random readings
ranging for lowest 156 to highest 440 after about 10 - 15 min at idle
can anyone tell me what the temp should be (ballpark)
some people has told me between 150 - 200 and others has told me between 500 - 550

any help is appreciated
thanks

Not sure about temps but 250-300 sounds about right..but to check lean or rich look at youir plugs..not header temps..white = too lean, black oily = too rich, light tan/gray = just right.

With a good infared thermometer it will vary some, around 450 F just out of the heads.
As with compression be more concerned with uniformity than a specific number.
A low temp indicates a dead non firing cylinder.
