I recenly bought a 1980 GL 1100 interstate.
the bike was sitting for almost 2 years, and among other things I had to do a complete carb job , and put in a (X4) rebuild kit.
the carbs were synced, and everything looked OK , but here is the problem: now ,while closing the throttle, the revs won't go down.. between gears or while shifting to neutral the rpm stays at 2500-3500 and only after a little while it goes down to aprox. 1000.
this is not a gas cable issue.the cable is good and goes back OK.
is it possible that the carbs are drawing air from somewhere?
any ideas whats wrong here? it's really annoying to shift gears in this condition.

Are you sure the throttle is actually closing? It could be a push cable. Watch the butterfly wheel at the back of the throttles when you close the throttle. If it doesn't close all the way, give it a push with your finger. If it then closes, then your problem is a broken cable, probably a push cable. If it moves correctly, it is likely a problem within the carbs themselves.
