GL 1100 Interstate or Aspencade

Postby bluckg » Tue Dec 29, 2015 6:31 pm

I bought a 1981 Goldwing GL 1100. How can I determine if it's an Interstate or Aspencade?

Good evening bluckg, let me be the first to welcome you to the best GW site out there, many, many knowledgeable and helpful wingers here. To answer your question I stole the attached from another site, I hope it helps. I am sure others will pipe in with more suggestions.
GL1100, GL1100 I or GL1100 A will be printed on the neck. Base, Interstate, Aspencade.

'80-81 no Aspencades. '80 made in Japan, '81-83 made in USA. Interstate and Aspencade will not have a HONDA logo on the side of the fuel tank shelter. Saddle bags should have logo reflecting Interstate or Aspencade. Aspencades had two-tone paint schemes. Interstate and GL had mono-tone paint schemes.

There are a multitude of other differences but, this should help you determine if what you see is what you are getting. :D :D

Nothing to do with your question, but welcome to the forum from the deep deep South.

Thank you Mr Redial. I'm a Goldwing virgin. Lol. This is my first one. It needs a little work but I'm hoping to have it road ready by the time it warms up here (Missouri).

Hi from Plymouth in UK (where Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America). You will probably find that you will have to be patient with your bike and have money filled pockets but when running properly they do run well. Good solid engine. I have a 1982 Aspencade made in USA. Parts can be expensive and the bike when it goes wrong frustrating at the best of times.

I hope you have many years trouble free with the bike.

aspy started 82 with a stock onboard compressor setup, but you could also get the onboard compressor setup as a separate kit for 1100s that didn't have it

82 is the first year for dual piston calipers, 82 aspy is the only model and year that has fully vented rotors front & back

82 also has 18"f 16"r wheels vs 19" - 17" prior
