engine cuts out

Postby ddenney » Tue Feb 02, 2016 11:13 am

When climbing a hill on my 81 GL 1100 if the rpms get a little low and I twist for more power the engine just seems to cut out like it just losses power. I then downshift (which I never had to do on my 1200 and IMHO shouldn't on my 1100) and it runs just fine. Carbs rebuilt, synchronized, vacuum advance changed, still does the same. Fuel milage is not near what the 1200 got. I get about 32 mpg. The 1200 got 48. Not to happy with 1100's.

That's way too low, you should be getting around 45 mpg. The low mileage and the bogging down at low RPM are pointing me towards at minimum a carb cleaning, or more likely, a carb rebuild. Have you checked the plugs? Do all four plugs look the same color and condition? What compression are your cylinders showing?
