GL1100 engine changeout

Postby mcgyver2112 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 12:08 pm

I recently bought a 1981 GL1100 Goldwing ,not knowing it had a locked up motor. It took me 6 months to find a reasonably priced motor. I am interested in knowing if there are any shortcuts to removing and installing this motor. Some manuals list unnecessary procedures that can be skipped to achieve the same goal. I have found that to be true with car repairs. This two-wheeled world is all new to me, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

follow Honda shop manual..basically remove drive shaft from rear of engine so it can slide out , loosen carbs and tie up to frame or remove, remove pipes, jack up engine on bike stand with wheels..remove engine mount bolts and side frame..side out. other minor stuff..plugs wires, starter connections, fuel lines etc.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB
