Check the main fuse, and battery connections - proceed from there.

Since the power came back on you must have a loose, burn't, or corroded electrical connection.
Items to check:
Battery terminal connections and opposite end of ground cable at large engine mount bolt.
Look in dogbone connector box, check for corrosion or signs of a poor connection.
Wire brush shiny all connections reassemble and snug up.

I think this may be your problem. Simple things first.

The only other remote possibility I can think of is something faulty in the kill switch circuit or maybe the switch itself.

If this isn't it you're in for an intensive inspection of all things electical related to the engines run circuit and it's components.

Dogbone fuse is the #1 cause of this sort of problem. Don't just look at it, actually remove it - mine looked fine when I had this problem, but when I removed it, it crumbled to dust in my fingers.

Failing that, check the battery cables - at both ends, where they connect to the battery and where they connect to the bike. Wiggle the cables, check the terminals for corrosion.

Glad you found the cause and got it fixed. Touch that little spot up on the frame with some rust paint to prevent corrosion.

Was there a bare section of wire near that fuse, did it wear through?
