Mike,
If youre sure it's not working your best bet is going to be e-bay or a m/c salvage yard in your area. These are old bikes, there are a few new parts left but just as many that are no longer being made.
Make sure the advance is out before you go to the trouble of removing it and replacing it. I usually block the carb port on the #3 carb, then start the motor, (I know this sounds crude, but) suck on the vacuum tube. If the rpm of the motor increases, it's working and you have save yourself a boat load of unnecessary work.

Do a quick search on this forum. A couple of members have used car canisters to replace the vac advance.
Plenty of info here on that. Regards, Johnny

The most important part of this project is to scribe or mark the plate that the pulse coils mount to against the casting before you remove the bad vacuum canister.
The new canister is then adjusted to that mark to set the timing back to original.

I used a auto type canister,,, you would be much better off finding one on ebay or elsewhere, before you purchase one, ask the owner if it holds a vacuum or if it's been tested,,, 9 out of 10 of the ones I opened up had holes in the diaphragm...The auto canister is not a easy bolt on thing,, its major reconstruction   .....It requires using a die and tap and surgery, it's been so long I think I forgot how I did it.. LOL I have photo's still I think... I remember fastening the lower part of the oem canister to a auto canister for a v-8 and I had to open it up and remove the spring on the v-8 one,,, I replaced it with the Honda's oem spring, (smart) It's perfect when measured... Then I had to use a die on the shaft to rethread it to fit the adjustable shaft that is fastened to the pick up coils plate....The best part of this fun project for me was test it.... It still working after about five years... I can show you the test if you would like to see it...Just say the work man.... I put everything back using JB Weld, as in resealing the canisters and attaching them together, it's sounds funny but it's still functioning...LOL Bam.... I almost forgot.... On the back side of the oem canister there should be a epoxy looking seal, if that seal is gone the leak is there.... Just put a small wad of papertowel in the hole and jb weld it shut... Reseal that mother...I say the wad of paper because the JB weld will just dribble inside.. Paper will stop it...Do not turn the adjustable shaft to the pick up coils and if you do make a mark on the baseplate....as a reference of location, that's what I did to get everything back to perfect again...No I'm not an engineer just a freakin caveman...LOL See, by using the lower part of the base plate the canister rebolts as original...it just has another canister taking a piggyback ride..LOL

backside of canister, without the seal I mentioned, needs to be sealed
