Defective fuel filters

This is something I need to pass on to all whose bikes use the same filter as the 4 cyl. Wing. Some of the newbies may not be aware of this.
I just recently pulled my carbs and found them to full of very fine rust, both in the float needle screens and in the bowls. Out of curiousity I grabbed the old filter and shook it. Sure enough, it rattled. Its one of many filters that were made with the filter element inside about 1/8" too short. These don't seal. All the rust, dirt, water etc just goes around the end of the element and right into your carbs. These I believe were made by Emco and its the first I've seen in many moons so it must have been on the shelf for a while. So long I forgot to shake before I installed it.
The good filters don't rattle so if you find one that does, take it back or toss it in trash. Don't use it.
