Finally got my 1983 GL1100 on the road yesterday....runs good and rides good.......one thing I noticed was everytime I pull the clutch lever the neutral light comes on! This doesn't seem like it should be because when I get ready to park and shift to neutral the light is on even though I am still in gear so I can't tell when I am actually in neutral.....any ideas?

Same here. Replaced the diode and problem solved.. My diode was in the tape of the wiring harness. It is hidden but it is there.

I have a different issue with my nuetral light. While replacing the diode fixs the anomoly of the clutch switch turning on the nuetral light, I wonder if it will fix my issue: on my '83 the nuetral light is intermittent and the OD light never works. Any thoughts?

Could be carbon in the gear position switch. Carbon or sludge from the oil can build up in the switch and cause intermittent (or no) connection. Removing it, cleaning it out with a solvent (like brake cleaner) will fix it.
Otherwise, it could be the switch is worn out, or the wiring from the switch to the dash is broken/crimped.
