Can speedo read out be adjusted?

Postby Gypsy Rover » Wed Aug 04, 2010 9:33 pm

I recently purchased an 83 aspy, new to me and really enjoying getting back on a bike after many years away. Recently a friend was following me and later remarked that I was about 4-5 mph under the speed limit. I was reading right on at the speedo so obviously I'm over reading a bit. Is there any way of changing gearing, cable, or read out to correct this?

TIA
Dale

LOL, mine does the same thing, mostly by going through those radar speed signs they set up periodically. I've learned just to adjust - it's off about 3 mph at 35 and 5mph at 70. I just keep the readout a little higher than I want to be traveling.

Thanks Oldsmore, I was afraid that would be the answer, guess I'll have to just adjust the nut on the seat. Anyone else tried a more technical adjustment?

Cheers

the technical solution is a gps.

at 61mph I am going 55, a 10% error.

It can be adjusted by moving the needle, but it needs to be opened up to do that. I'd live with it, but if you want to know how, get in touch.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Thanks Old Fogey but it's a digital read out on the speedo so can't go that route. I'd decided to just live with it, I took the GPS along on a test run and found the error is pretty much linear, off the same amount at all speeds so I can just make the mental adjustment.
