turn signals.

Postby Steamboat7404 » Thu Mar 31, 2016 7:30 pm

Don't laugh group, (remember I'm new) but are the turn signals supposed to come on and stay on full time, my headlight and tail light stay on. I was just wondering if the turn signals were also suppose to stay on. I'm basing this on my friends newer bikes, when they ride at night the turn signals are on solid amber and only blink when they indicate a turn.

The turn signal lights are actually combination running light/turn signals. Both my 1978 and 1981 Wings did and my 1999's stay on with the headlight. Yours should also.

On my 1980 ,The marker lights stay on in the front, but not the rear.
The front has the 1157 dual filament bulb, the rear the 1073 single filament.
Scratched my head on that one awhile ago myself. Regards, Johnny

You are correct. I should have specified that only the front are wired that way and not the rear. Honda also wired them so the running light turns off on the front bulb that flashes when you activate the turn signal.

Check your bulbs also. It might be a burnt out filament.

Figured it, the last owner cut off the front turn signal metal attachment point. I was trying to go with lights that were not compatible. SO i have to look for another way to attach the front signals. I was going off the front headlight studs. Looks like i need an option B. Don't really like the turn signals on the headlight but not sure how to go about attaching them somewhere else.

Unless the original owner removed parts to fit an aftermarket fairing, the original turn signal stalks were mounted to the fork tubes. Are those what you have?

Ok, I now have front turn signals but still no running lights. Searched the site and found where the wiring is supposed to be at least I have signals. So small steps. Is the taillight supposed to be on when riding or just when the brake is activated. I have a brake light that works as designed, just not sure if the tail light is always on.

Here's the new guy coming out again.. I had a blown fuse and now I have front running lights and turn signals. The taillight issue is still there but found out if I move the taillight wiring around the light comes on... SO I'll tear into the taillight wiring and make that fix...

Thanks Oldbear for the response...
