GS 1100 interstate

Postby Bretland Blackstone » Fri Apr 01, 2016 8:17 am

I have a 1100 golwing interstate here is my problem. It'll run real good for 20 miles give or take a few. Then it running like crap, doesn't have any power at all barly runs but doesn't die completely. If I disengage the cluch I can Rev the motor,it Rev up like no problem.Someone said it was vaper locking.I don't know. I'm inclined to think it something heating up and shutting down. I would sure appreciate any help on information on what to do about this as in I don't want to pay 100 dallors an hour for someone to work on it thanks

sounds like the gas cap is not venting, creating a vacuum in the tank that the fuel pump cant overcome. next time it does this pull oer to the side of the road and remove the gas cap. do you hear a big whoosh of air being sucked in? if yes then soak the gas cap in Seafoam over night and reinstall. 8-)

Hi, just getting my 1100 ready after the long winter. Owned the 82 interstate since new but got away from riding for a number of years. Had the bike gone over and carbs rebuilt, it seems to run great but just wondering if any one can think of anything I missed checking. New tires and shocks checked. Any suggestions. Also interested in any accessories available like drink bottle holders etc.
Thanks,
Rick (Capt'n)

First of all Capt'n welcome to the forum, we will be happy to help you with any problem you may be having with your bike and collectively there is a wealth of info on this site.

In the future would you please start a new posting to ask questions about your bike, not tag on to someone elses post, this is called called Hijacking and is frowned apon. This will help to keep the posts from getting confusing as you can see by the response from the opening poster in egards to the timing belts comment that was directed at you.

Dont forget to use the search box to look for answers to your questions before you ask as you will find that most problems have already been asked and solved in the past. You will most likely get an almost instant answer to your question that way with only a little reading.
I now return you to your normally posted topic. 8-)
