PO blocked weep hole in fuel pump on 83 gl1100,I didn't pay mush thought to it!I was going to do an oil change to warm it up first, jest R&R-ed carbs, started having problems high idle 1800/2300 put top of intake back on,idle droped, found air filter is to tall.Gas in intake. blocked intake with heavy cloth idled down again,Thought I'd chase down a vacuum leak.put it off for tomorrow, started fine next day after I cleaned and tighten all intake & inlets.idle started to climb again once warmed up (not hot yet).heavy fuel smell! gas in vacuume line.pulled lines top of breather.Restarted it, fuel now pumping out of crankcase vent? not good!....ok tomorrow.oil change.pull carbs.check gas cap.pull fuel lines check fuel pressure.?? anyone ?anything ? Great looking gl $300.00. 43,111 miles.what could go wrong? GOLDWINGDOCS priceless 1,000's in information.Questions? PO screw in weep hole (blocked) high pressure? back pressure?(gas in oil)

You need a new pump or rebuild..leaking diaphragm lets fuel get into the bottom of the pump if the weep hole is blocked, then tach housing and then into the cylinder head and then into the crank case.it would take a big leak to fill it...But there is an open path.

sounds like you also have carb issues..bad, stuck or set wrong floats/float needles. leaky d rings? dirty slides??
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83

I was not sure if screw made a difference, did'nt count it out! I have a 2lb elect pump.I can by- pass it. altra-sonic cleaner is 150 mile away.I'll will pull carbs and bench test with a 6 feet of gas line and turkey baster.biggest problem is 15.5 template is not going to work to adjust floats.I adjusted by way of clear tube 2/4 mm bellow carb body screws.I have done this befor not perfect ,but you may get close.I will see if 6 feet of gas line makes a difference.what I don't know is if the screw added extra pressure to the system. For now I found my eye-glasses.and I pulled the end off a pair of binochlars to look the carbs over.I'll jest ask if you have an idea where I should set floats at? I could see how high the elect pump pushes the gas,use this as a standard to adjust to.or against.PO hacked the electrical, carbs, fuel intake the more I look the more I find. Its half the fun.GW docs has been most helpful. Thanks for you're response.

fuel pump tested with carbs off, plugs out,one-one-thousand,two one-thousand up to five one thousand.produced 1/2 cup of gas.this may be the wrong way to do this test, but I wanted to get new oil back in cycle as soon as possible.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying you got 4 oz of gas in 5 seconds. That's 48 oz in one minute -- way too much. Should be about 15-16 oz/min. Hopefully, one of the gurus here will be along to tell you what to look for.

Yep 1/2 cup. fuel pump pressure over loaded float, back pressure at float #40, may have dumped gas in at pump seal to crankcase, given that weep hole is blocked, but that info stated speedo was at fuel pump,My speedo is on front tire.I'll add 2psi elec pump, find out if I can remove and block off old pump.maybe gain some hp.
