Idle speed when warm

Postby Pacificbuoy » Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:12 pm

I've had my 81 Goldwing for almost three weeks now and I've set the idle at startup to be 950-1k. After a good run the bike idles around 2k. Is this normal? My Silverwing idle increased about 500 after it was warmed up. A thousand seems like a lot though. What are your thoughts?

I have an 82 GL1100 A and took it out for the first time this year, experiencing the same problem. Anyone have a fix for this?

You don't set the idle speed on motor that's cold....

So the idle should be around 1k when warm?

I agree that you set the idle at operating temperature, however my experience has been if it still increases you may have a vacuum leak. FWIW

Carbs off twice,!This time I'm able to make an adjustment by turning the 4 screws at each carb.but she only drops to 1600 rpms from 2000 rpms.I thought Id pull each boot 1 at a time, making sure of a good seal on each,But I read a post that stated he had the same problem and it started when he pull 2 wires at,on or near the fan.PO did a hack job on the wiring. It would be easer to switch the wires first.to see if it helps.then move on to the boot(s)I tried to send a privet message, but I'm no better at the computer or this web page.It may have been on 1200

I managed to get my idle speed sorted out. It was just a matter of getting the bike warmed up then adjusting the screw as suggested and using the choke at startup.
The problem was me setting the idle cold so it started with little or no choke then the bike would over rev as it warmed up.
