Loss of power

Postby weathersh09 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 5:31 am

My GL1100 will run fine, til I "get on" the throttle, then it wants to sputter like a car with a bad spark plug, lose power, and smoke. Under idle its fine, but will sputter under throttle. When revved, it pours smoke out the tailpipes and smells bad of gas. Any ideas??

From the description you wrote, when was the last time the carbs were cleaned? And look for the obvious check the vacum hosse that comes off of the #3 carb and goes back to the advanced unit, make sure it's connected up and there's no cracks. Might want to run some Seafoam thru the gas tank. Strong gas smell means your not burning off the fuel mixture (Way to Rich).

It could also be a weak spark. Check the voltage at the battery when it's running to be sure your charging system is up to snuff.

Other folks will be along and we'll figure it out.
