Cooling fan

Postby Wingding96 » Thu Apr 28, 2016 12:36 pm

I was riding my 83 interstate this morning. It was minus 2 degrees. Out of nowhere at slow speed my cooling fan( i think) started to make a winding noise. Can anyone help me with what caused it. Is it because it was so cold that bearings were a little tight? Any info would be great.

Probably because of the cold. Indicates that the fan motor needs to be serviced. Now I have to ask. Why did your cooling fans come on at -2 degrees?

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out its not the fan. I started bike up after work, the sun was up then. It is my tacometer cable making the noise. I took the cable out last nite and greased it with a silicone grease and reassembled. All good now. Ready for fri 13 ride to dover .
Thanks WINGDING

When dose the fan kick on.? I can bring it up to temp 3 bars (83 aspencade) No fan ! I read somewhere that if the wires are wrong it will cause high idle.Ive taken it around the block a few times, and it dosent go above 3 bars, and I have yet to see the fan kick in.

Start the bike and let it idle for several minutes, without it moving the temp goes up and the fan will turn on.

Temps up here in Minnesota in the mid 40s ran her once in the 50s.Still after 10 min no fan. I would like to pop the coolant cap and see it circulation and fan come on. Better to see it in my drive-way. Then to over-heat down the road
