Spark Plug Boots

Postby str8edge » Fri Apr 29, 2016 8:58 am

I'm having an issue trying to figure out replacement spark plug boots for my 1982 gl1100a. I know that ngk sells some and also randaak (sp?) has some for sale, but supposedly there was a modification in the coils on the 1982 models opposed to the previous ones. There is a resistor in the coils and the ngk replacement boots have a resistor as well, so this causes some sort of issue? I'm not exactly sure... and I have no idea what a resistor does...
As for my current boots, one of them likes to make my spark plug hole a little pond when it rains... making sure that cylinder doesn't run until dry.
Has any one used these before with success on a 1982?

Oh, and a side note question... how is the sliding seat supposed to work on these? Doesn't seem to work....

First there is a drain hole down in the well of the plug wells..you can clear it by running a small rod through i like a cut coat hanger. Get the same plug caps you have now..still available from Honda $12, resistors slow/eat up electrical charge..also help with static on your radio.

Got my boots at my local Honda dealer.
Not bad price and I knew they would fit.
One day after I had washed my bike It wouldn't run right. Thought it was fuel filter . Turns out water was trapped around one plug boot. Took wire and cleaned out drain hole and no more problems.
As far as the seat goes.I just adjust mine where I like it and never move it.
I just wish you could remove and replace the bolts easier without having to loosen the saddle bags to get at them. It gets real dirty under the seat and I like to keep it clean.

As tot eh seat there is a or shoudl be a lever on the left side of the seat where it's bolted to the frame..pushing in/up on the lever releases the seat slide it only moves an inch or so either way..note the bolt on the right side must be loose/not gorilla tight, for it to work. #4 here..

Thank you for the replies!

I cleaned out that spark plug hole with a bit of stout electrical wire. I tested it with water, and it worked!
I have a question about my seat though. Mine is set up to slide, but it just doesn't. Does it have to be lubed up or something for it to work?

The seat look at the post above.
I removed both side bolts years ago and the seat will slide to where it is comfortable for me. It only slides at most 2 inches.

I also removed the 2 bolts that hold the front of the false tank years ago also.
