80 GL1100 for sale

Postby twocams » Fri Apr 29, 2016 11:24 am

I was having lunch the other day at a one feed bag diner. I was on my 85 GL without all the tupperware on.
This older than me gentleman came in to tell me someone had stole some of my bike. We got to talking over lunch and he said he had a 80 GL1100 with Honda fairing/luggage. He was going to sale but had some running issues. We talked price a little, 49,000 miles, one owner, black, around $2100. I gave him my # encase he needed some help with his running issue. He called last night wanting to know if I could help him with his bike, I said sure/would I like to buy it? I dont really need 2 BMWs/ 2 Gold Wings but if the price was right maybe I do. If buying time came around what should I look for that might keep me from buying? I dont know much about these 80 Wings. Are they worth having? Thanks

Great bikes easy to work on..compression 145 or better even all the way around..165 is perfect, two weep holes if weeping = new parts..fuel pump and water pump, charging at idle 12V's at 3,000 rpm's should be 13.5 or better..if not stator issue or wiring from stator issue..or regulator. I can buy these around here for under 1500..running in decent shape..not running 700 or less.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

$2100 with issues is a bit much.
I got mine in decent condition, albeit a bad water pump, for $700.
See what the issues are first, but I wouldn't go over $1500. Then you will of course find other things that are wrong, or need rebuilt, or changed, etc- etc- etc. Regards, Johnny
