Faring wiring harness help

Postby parparker91 » Wed Jun 01, 2016 3:22 am

I have a 1983 GL1100 I and I'm removing the faring and replacing it with an aftermarket headlight and turn signals. Can anyone help me figure out which wires I need to use from the original faring wiring connector? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Here's from an '82 Interstate:

The circled area is where the 9-pin connector coming from inside of the fairing plugs into the "pigtail" that comes from the bike. It also includes the green wire that runs alongside the connector. You should also be able to see the wire colors. "L" is blue.

The way I understand it, you need to eliminate the harness inside the fairing and also the pigtail in order to go naked. Going from Interstate to naked has often been done, but I am not aware of any detailed instructions. You'll need to do some searching. Here's a link to the Naked Goldwing Club website. http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/page/Welcome

Once you remove the fairing pull the weight off the plastic housing. You'll find all the wires you need in the housing. Most if not all those wires need to end up in your new headlight bucket. If you're good with a volt meter you will find all the wires that perform the functions you need! I turned one naked couple years ago, wasn't that hard to do for me.
