OD Light on 82 Wing????
I have a1982 Goldwing gl100, It has a purple light to the bottem right of the speedo. It is always on. Shop said OD is overdrive. That seems pretty simple. The clymers talks about some rear suspension warning light and says it is in that area. Now the dummy I bought the bike from installed 2 different shocks on the read end. One is air and the other isn't. Is the light over drive or is it rear suspension warning light?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
Is it a light about the size of a dime? And does it say OD beside it?

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
I've never seen an overdrive indicator on any Gl1000 or Gl1100. My 82 just has an air pressuse warning light in the location you describe. My Gl1200 has an OD indtcator on the digital readout. I got to thinking though, If Honda put an OD light on the analog speedos installed on some of the 1200s? Is it possible you may have a 1200 speedo?

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
I would guess that it is possible that I could have a speedo that is not original. The bike changed many hands before it came to rest in my garage. As described in the OP I am not sure that it is an OD light. It has the letters OD in very close proximity to a purple light. The clymers indicates that the area that this light is in is the same(ish) area that the low rear suspension warning light can be found. I would guess that that may be the solution to the mystery. Thanks.

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
After looking through the various owners manuals for your year of Goldwing, it is possible that you have a speedometer from a 1983 model. Here is a photo of the instrument cluster on my '83 Interstate, which fits the layout and description you gave above. On my machine (as stated in the '83 manual) this is the overdrive light (OD) and is definitely a light purple when lit (the manual says it is supposed to be green).
It is possible that your "OD" labeled light may be wired as the rear air pressure light for an '82 model. Regardless of label and color, I believe that if it was correctly wired to be an air pressure warning light, then a 'constantly lit' light would indicate trouble with the air pressure system as addressed in the manual for that year.
Not an expert, just trying to help shed some additional light on your question.

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
That looks like my dash. And as I said in OP the last guy put a normal shock on with a air shock. So that could be part of the problem. Thanks for your time. I would like to know why I have an 83 dash on the 82. Could it be that there is such a thing as an 82.5 or ????

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
The 82 does not have a capability to run the OD light - the neutral switch does not have an OD output. So on the 82, it is an air pressure warning light (driven by a switch in the air pressure splitter located next to the rear brake master cylinder), and on the 83 it is an OD light (driven by an output on the neutral switch, inside the right side of the front engine cover).
So either you have an 82 with an 83 instrument cluster on it, or you have an 83 and don't know it.
If you have linked brakes, it's an 83.

Title says 1982. However if someone could post a pic of a real 1982 gl1100i dash I would be able to compare the difference.

My 1980 gl1100 has an od light and 2 wires from the switch(near the oil filter) my 83 gl1100i has the same indicator(no od Marking)it is turned on by a pressure switch near the rear break master cyl.The switch is connected to the air shock valve assembly. It indicates low air pressure in the rear shocks

Re: OD Light on 82 Wing????
TBH it would seem that my bike is a mash up of 32 and 83 parts. I may get into it this winter and see if I can connect the od light to the rear shocks. Even if to make it go out as it is always on.
