Rear master cylinder

Postby Kronos » Thu Jun 16, 2016 1:25 pm

I took caliper off (removed pads on road other day with tool kit) took master cylinder off today WOW how the brakes even worked is mystery. Right on about this being problem for brakes locking up.Took all morning to get apart very carefully snap ring was really on there. Scrape chunks off WD and cleaners, You mention putting in hot water to clean stuff would it be ok to put in real hot soap water and pick away with Qtips and stuff? Hope to get parts ordered and back together next week or so. Hope new push rod comes with piston set have parts person looking into it. Thanks again for DYI section, hope all goes back together.

Isopropyl alcohol will dissolve that crusted on stuff, you can soak it in it to help soften the mess so you can get it off.

Make sure afterwards you thoroughly clean it out with brake cleaner to ensure any remnants of the alcohol (or carrier) is gone.

Just put all back together need some plastic hose will bleed in morning. I did put it in hot soap water cleaned with small rags used sos pad and turned around in bores spend extra time on push rod seems they are thing of the past better take care of it. Took some 2000 grit wet paper and rolled up turned in main bore that worked nice for slight pitting remaining. New pads seem to really squeek bad up on center stand yet, I sure that goes away not that something went bad on rotor when got real hot when brakes stuck.

Have all together once lines bleed and applied brakes in use all squeeks went away. Over 100 miles on now lot of stop signs best brakes ever so far, Now thinking about it they must have been hanging up some for awhile. Front fluid was brownish also so cleaned out fluid level with rags and bleed with new fluid right away, if can keep old bike running will do this more often. 52000 on now thinking about wheel bearings alot.
