I picked up an 83 Gl1100 Standard a couple of weeks ago. I found the trunk rack, trunk and hard bags from a 83 Interstate. I'm sure the rack and trunk will fit without a problem. The question is will the bags fit? The Standard has rear turn signals that extent out from the rear taillight/stop light. I don't have access to an Interstate all I've seen is pictures and can't really tell if the turn signals will be in the way. From looking at the pics it looks awfully close. The bags are from a guy on Ebay so I can't try before I buy. Has anyone tried this install?

You would need to remove the turnsignals and stem extenders from the tail light assembly and wire the turn signals from the bags into the wiring harness. The stems will still stick out from the tail light, but they won't be in the way. I just did the same thing to mine, a 1980 standard.

My 82 was a STD model but fitted with a Vetter fairing. It had some expensive but very ugly bags and trunk on it. Wasn't Honda, Vetter, Calafia, or Bates, but well made and ugly. Through eBay, I gathered all the brackets, bags and stuff to make the rear half of my 82 an Interstate. It not only looks better but it did lower the center of gravity. The ugly ones mounted high, Euro-style. When loaded up with cargo, it felt very top heavy.
