Cant find leak in rear air shocks 81 GL1100 Asp

Post by Clarencechapman » Sat Jul 02, 2016 10:58 am

This has me stumped. My rear suspension will hold about 43 LBS of air. I can pump it up to max but quickly leaks back down to the 43 LBS. I have soaped all the lines and fittings from the compressor on back to the shocks but have not found any leaks.

This bike sat for a number of years before I bought it. Could the shocks themselves be leaking the air from a seal? It just seems weird that it will hold 43 LBS but nothing more. Kind of like a seal is weak.

I have never noticed, nor is there evidence of oil leaking from the shocks. Its been a little while but I do NOT remember the inside of the boots being filled with oil.

The forks are holding just fine.

The other thought that I had is that the switch(s) themselves might be leaking. I would think I would have seen some bubbles when I soaped them though.

Any suggestions would be appreciated? Like I said I am out of ideas. I don't mind working on the bike but hate digging into things and going the wrong direction.
