My journey to a better electrical system.

I have an 81 GL1100 interstate, and ( surprise! surprise!) the electrical system sucks.

I hope you don't mind but I thought I would document my whole journey towards a better electrical system.... here goes....

My story starts with my neighbor who sold me the bike.

When he took the bike out of storage this spring, his battery was no good( it was dry and wouldn't take a charge).

This didn't scare me away from buying the bike, as it shouldn't...I knew that it was a 35 year old machine.

Before selling the bike to me, my neighbor replaced the battery with a new battery, plus he and a friend spent a weekend going through all the electrical looking for problems and shorts.

When I got it, the battery was strong, and the bike worked great. Plus, I picked up a Battery Tender and disconnected the clock on the bike. Problem solved.....or so I thought....

Hi
Do yourself a favor and install a poor boys kit on your bike and ride off into the sunset as often as you would like.
Best thing I ever did to my 1200.
