GL1100 81 swingarm question

Postby DirtyPaws » Mon Jul 18, 2016 2:17 am

Hello,

As i was assemblying my bike i noticed this huge cap between frame and swingarm on left side :

Right side looks nice and snug:

Is that normal or did i do something wrong when i was attaching swingarm ? I did bolt on right side first ( tightly ). It moves up and down without any resistance and seems to work like it should.

I thought so. Is there supposed to be a small cap on both sides then or is it supposed to be snug like on that " left side " picture ?
That bike was in accident ( dropped on left side ) and engine was stuck when i got it. I did measure the frame and checked if all the pipes were straight. I also checked wheel alignment and it was perfectly straight.

I would not experiment with loosening the screws - at least the swing arm ones ;)
Haynes says that the right screw need to be torqued at 100 - 120 Nm and the left at 18 Nm, if it does not fit then something is wrong.
I am just after the installation, and I had the problems with the simmerrings (dust seal), they do not come easily on the screws, I had to disassembly and assembly the swing-arm again and it helped to install them correctly.
