Bartery compartment help

Postby crbassn » Mon Jul 18, 2016 8:24 am

I have recently purchased an 83 aspencade, I had to replace the starter relay and the battery. When I installed the battery is found two 14 Gage wires one white one black in the battery compartment close to the positive terminal on the battery. Does anyone know what they are and if they do indeed attach to the battery? I apologize if this is seems random but my wife won't stop demanding my attention

Too many others to list

First, welcome to the forum.
The two 14 gauge wires are probably for some accessory that is being wired directly to the battery.
Do you have any additional lights that are on the bike?

If you have a 2-pole connector for heated clothing, that might be it - that's what the one on my previous bike looked like.

So I take it they are not important at this moment, thank you this is my first bike and I want to understand every function

They might be important - especially if there is no fuse on the positive one, mounted CLOSE to the battery. If not, then the previous owner who installed it did not do it properly, and it is a fire risk.

I have no intention of installing them until I can properly identify them, the bike is old enough that I need to shoot every wire and cable.
