Is this claim legit??

My 1981 gl1100 runs very rough starting out low. Everything I know has been checked, valves, carbs , etc , etc.
I ran across an article by saber cycle that stated an air cutoff valve would cure the problem for a mere $16. I've never heard of this. Anyone read this claim?

Any statement made by those crooks at Saber Cycle I would view with a great deal of skepticism. I'm sure that they are willing to sell you said valve for only $16. And when it doesn't solve the problem, they will accuse you of not knowing how to install it properly, and ban you from ever purchasing from them again.

This is the only information need at the moment.Snake oil and randomly replacing parts is not a option.Identify why your bike isn't running correctly.
This will take a few trips to the keyboard and the bike to narrow it down.
I assume nothing...including that "oh that's been checked" as your confirmation that it's really OK.
There is a series of tests to be done.Kinda like a punch list.
Remember.Spark..compression and fuel/air mixture must be exactly right. And for all 4 cylinders.
Test one.
Start the bike from dead cold..Idle ONLY..do not rev the engine ...for 8 seconds and shut it down..lightly tap each header. Are they all the same "warm"?
Borrow a compression gauge.Wide open throttle check each cylinder(cold engine).
Are they within 5 psi of each other and above 130 psi.
What do the spark plugs look like?

the air valve can cause a problem but the trash they sell will cause a bigger one .

Apart from which, there is an air valve on all four carbs, so replacing one would not have solved anything.
Do the checks suggested above first, but almost certainly the carbs idle circuits are gummed up.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

I will check what's been suggested .
Isn't it true that the gl1100 engine , even if all components are prestine and working as they should , will stammer and shutter at takeoff anyway? The bike runs fine once I reach high rpms .
As far as saber cycle goes, I knew they were a shady outfit but their article was dangerously convincing.

Do you really think that Honda would have produced thousands of bikes that 'stammer and shutter at takeoff' ? Not a chance!
The very early 1000s had a very slight hesitation on take-off, but even that was not really noticeable.

Absolutely no....I have run more than one of the 1100's.
After I got done with them they were a smooth idle and pulling hard from idle to red line.

Parts can be pristine but if they don't operate in concert the bike won't sing.
As a bike ages, tweaking may be needed to compensate.
