LUBING THE IGNITION

Postby PRACTIKALGUY » Wed Jul 20, 2016 11:40 am

Does anyone know what works best to lubricate/clean the ignition? I don't want to go squirting the wrong thing in it.
Thanks.

What part of the ignition are you wanting to clean?

All I used was one drop on the slide door part and one drop on each side of the key of 3-n1 oil. Maybe one drop in the key hole, didn't want to bring in any more contaminates. Had a can of air I used before the oil, blew in the key hole. Now the key slides, in and out e-z and and the key cylinder is smooth all is well. Also I have just the one key and a rubber type key fob to reduce side pressure on the lock itself. Hope that helps.

You don't want to use an oil-based lubricant on locks. The oil stiffens, it collects grit and dirt, and soon your lock is jammed and nonfunctional.

First flush it out with a solvent that evaporates leaving behind NO residue - brake cleaner is a good one.

Then lubricate with graphite spray. This has a carrier that evaporates quickly, leaving behind dry graphite, which is an excellent lubricant.
