Hi how do you remove motor from 1981 Honda GL 1100 interstate? And replace alternator? Not charging.

Disconnect battery, remove header/mufflers, crash bars off, lower fairing off, throttle cables, disconnect fuel lines from pump, remove filter bracket, radiator/fan/hoses off, drive shaft uncoupled, stator wires unplug, tach cable remove, battery ground remove, Put a lift under the engine, remove all the engine mounting bolts, remove the subframe left side bottom. I think I got it all..then side engine to the left or the frame to the right.. remove rear engine case and there it is. Note taking the carbs off or the caps off makes it easier to slide the engine out but not required, taking the caps off easier

Take pictures, label wiring and connections, take your time. When you take for the rear cover off for stator replacement, there will be oil in that case that did not drain at the onset of removal.

Good luck

Removing the drive train is the hardest. Getting that little c-clip off is a bitch. Putting it back on is a little of the same.

It can be done removing the engine.
